α-glucosidase inhibitors block the digestion of carbohydrates reducing increases in blood sugar levels from dietary carbohydrates. Examples of α-glucosidase inhibitors include: acarbose and voglibose. Side effects of α-glucosidase inhibitors include gastrointestinal irritation resulting in passing gas, diarrhea, stomach discomfort and belly pain.
